LearnerLM ("we," "us," or "our") operates the LearnerLM Android application
(package name com.LearnerLM.app) and related backend services (collectively, the "Service").
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- The LearnerLM Android mobile application
- Our API and backend infrastructure that powers the app
- This informational website (landing page and legal documents)
This website does not include a chatbot, live chat widget, or interactive AI assistant. It is provided solely for product information and legal disclosures.
3. Information We Collect
3.1 Account Information
When you register or sign in, we collect information through Firebase Authentication, which may include:
- Email address
- Display name
- Authentication identifiers (UID)
- Profile photo URL (if you choose to add one)
3.2 Profile & Learning Preferences
You may provide or we may store:
- Grade level (grades 6–12)
- Selected subjects and custom subjects you create
- Subscription tier and billing status
- Learning progress, streaks, and topic history
3.3 Content You Submit
When you use tutoring, chat, study, or code features, we process:
- Messages and prompts you send
- AI-generated responses associated with your sessions
- Chat session metadata (titles, timestamps, mode selections)
- Text extracted from homework scans (processed on-device via ML Kit OCR before transmission)
- Images you capture for scanning (processed according to your device permissions)
3.4 Subscription & Payment Information
Paid subscriptions are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We may receive purchase tokens, product identifiers, and subscription status to verify your plan and unlock features.
3.5 Reports & Safety
If you report AI-generated content, we collect the report details you submit, including a preview of the flagged content, report category, and optional notes.
3.6 Technical & Usage Data
We and our service providers may automatically collect:
- Device type, operating system version, and app version
- IP address and general network information
- API request logs, error reports, and performance data
- Firebase Analytics events (where enabled)
3.7 Website Visitors
This informational website does not use cookies for tracking or embed third-party chat widgets. Standard web server logs may record IP address, browser type, and pages visited for security and operational purposes.
4. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Authenticate users and enforce account security
- Generate AI tutoring, study, and code-assistance responses
- Enforce usage quotas and subscription entitlements
- Track learning progress and personalize content to grade level
- Process content reports and respond to safety concerns
- Verify Google Play purchases and manage subscriptions
- Detect abuse, fraud, and violations of our Terms and Acceptable Use Policy
- Comply with legal obligations
5. AI Processing
LearnerLM uses third-party AI infrastructure to generate educational responses inside the mobile app. When you send a message or scan content, relevant text and context (such as grade level, subject, and conversation history within limits) may be transmitted to our backend and forwarded to AI model providers for processing.
AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. You should verify important information independently. You can report concerning AI content using the in-app flag feature.
We do not use your content to train proprietary AI models unless we explicitly notify you and obtain consent where required by law.
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
6.1 Service Providers
- Google Firebase — authentication and analytics
- Google Play — subscription billing and purchase verification
- Cloud hosting providers — API hosting and data storage (e.g., Render)
- AI infrastructure providers — processing prompts to generate educational responses within the app
- Email delivery providers — sending report notifications to our team
These providers process data on our behalf under contractual obligations consistent with this policy.
6.2 Legal & Safety
We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to:
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of LearnerLM, our users, or others
- Investigate fraud, security incidents, or policy violations
- Enforce our Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Policy
6.3 Business Transfers
If LearnerLM is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any material change in ownership or use of your data.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
Chat sessions, progress data, and account information may be deleted when you delete your account, subject to backup retention periods and legal requirements. Server logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
8. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS), Firebase-authenticated API access, and server-side access controls.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
9. Children & Students
LearnerLM is designed for students in grades 6–12, who may be under 18 years of age. We expect students under 13 to use the Service with parental or guardian awareness and consent where required by applicable law, including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Parents and guardians may contact us to review, update, or request deletion of a child's account information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate consent.
Schools and educators considering classroom use should review this policy and our Acceptable Use Policy and obtain any required parental permissions.
10. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a portable copy of your data
- Withdraw consent where processing is consent-based
California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
EEA/UK users may have rights under GDPR, including lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority.
