Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") describes the rules for using LearnerLM. It is part of our Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms.
1. Purpose
LearnerLM exists to help students in grades 6–12 learn how to think through problems — not to bypass learning. Our product uses a Socratic approach: hints, questions, and guided reasoning instead of handing over final answers to graded work.
By using LearnerLM, you agree to use it responsibly and in compliance with your school's academic integrity policies, your teachers' instructions, and applicable law.
2. Permitted Uses
You may use LearnerLM to:
- Understand concepts you are learning in school
- Get step-by-step guidance on how to approach a problem
- Review material with summaries, flashcards, and practice quizzes
- Debug and understand code for educational programming assignments
- Explore topics out of genuine curiosity in appropriate chat modes
- Scan homework pages to receive structured tutoring help
- Track your learning progress over time
3. Prohibited Uses
You may not use LearnerLM to:
3.1 Academic Dishonesty
- Submit AI-generated work as your own on graded assignments, tests, or exams
- Use the Service to complete homework, essays, or projects when your teacher requires independent work
- Circumvent honor codes, plagiarism rules, or classroom AI policies
- Disguise school assignments as casual chat to obtain direct answers
- Share account access so others can complete work on your behalf
3.2 Harmful or Illegal Activity
- Generate, request, or distribute content that is illegal, threatening, harassing, or exploitative
- Target minors with inappropriate, sexual, or violent content
- Promote self-harm, eating disorders, or dangerous activities
- Attempt to obtain instructions for weapons, drugs, or other harmful substances
- Engage in fraud, impersonation, or identity theft
3.3 Abuse of the Service
- Reverse engineer, scrape, or automate access to the API without authorization
- Probe or attack our systems, bypass rate limits, or interfere with other users
- Upload malware or attempt to compromise app or server security
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service without written permission
- Use the Service to build a competing product using our infrastructure
3.4 Misrepresentation
- Provide false grade level or identity information to manipulate responses
- Misrepresent AI output as human-created professional advice (medical, legal, financial, etc.)
- Report content in bad faith or to harass other users or our team
4. Mode-Specific Expectations
Tutor Mode
Intended for learning support. Expect guided questions and hints. Do not use Tutor mode to extract final answers for work that must be completed independently.
Study Mode
Intended for review, summaries, flashcards, and practice. Use generated study materials to learn — not to substitute for completing assigned readings or assessments.
Code Mode
Intended for understanding programming concepts and debugging. Do not submit code solutions generated by LearnerLM as your own when academic integrity rules require original work.
Chat Mode
Intended for general curiosity and everyday questions. School assignments and assessment-style questions belong in Tutor or Study mode. Attempts to disguise homework as casual chat violate this policy.
5. Enforcement
We may take action if we believe you have violated this AUP, including:
- Warning you about the violation
- Limiting features or imposing usage restrictions
- Removing content or resetting sessions
- Suspending or terminating your account
- Reporting illegal activity to appropriate authorities
We use automated systems, including classifiers, to detect likely policy violations (such as disguised homework requests). These systems are not perfect; final enforcement decisions may involve human review.
6. Reporting Violations & AI Content
If you encounter AI-generated content that is offensive, harmful, inaccurate, or violates this policy, use the flag/report button on the AI reply inside the app. Our team reviews reports and may take action on accounts or model behavior.
To report abuse by another user or a security issue, email [email protected].
7. Parents & Educators
Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss appropriate use of AI learning tools with their children. Educators may contact us with questions about classroom use. LearnerLM is a supplement to — not a replacement for — classroom instruction and qualified educators.
8. Changes
We may update this Acceptable Use Policy as our product and safety practices evolve. Continued use of the Service after updates constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
